Tristan,
Brother, are you keeping dry? Are you affected by the flooding, at all?
We're praying for those who have been and will continue to be stricken by the over flowing water!

Thanks for the concern. No, I'm down in South Australia, In its capital city Adelaide. www.southaustralia.com/Adelaide.aspx Won't affect the city at all. The Murray River www.murrayriver.com.au/about-the-murray/ flows through the state about 70km(43 miles) east of here and the flood plains will receive some water in the coming months. Will only be camping grounds and shacks affected at this stage. A couple of the guys from the Scale Sprints forum I moderate live in Queensland but we've not heard anything negative from them.

I have been spending just a little time at my bench and wanted to bring you a bit of an update. Here's the new Saltster Nose Job: Hosted on FotkiI've modified the Slick Grille Insert from the Revell '32 5ive Window Coupe to fit the Saltster's Narrowed and V-Cut Shell. In earlier discussions, it was duely noted that the AMT '34 Wire Wheels, that were initally going to be used on the Saltster Rev II, were not the best choice available. To that end, RRR ordered a set of R&MCoM Wires: Hosted on FotkiHere's the interesting chapter and a major incentive to get working and finish both verisions of the Saltster! Way after the concept and the begining construction of the Saltster, ACME (Atlanta Car Model Enthiusts) decided on their theme for our 2011 Southern NNL. Now mind you, I had already been working on wheel combinations for the Saltster, but had no input in the decision making process for the upcoming Nats. Hosted on FotkiSo, here are the Saltster's Wires, Steelies & Alloys: Hosted on FotkiThere will be more added to this chapter in upcoming posts as the Saltster near its November, 2011 entry into the 14th annual NNL. Wes

So nice to see the Salster in progress again Wes. Too many nice choices for wheels I daresay........ but how 'bout a set of full spun discs too? IMHO they'd go well with that slick nose insert How are you planning on showing it in it's variations at the show? Keep up the good works and may God bless

Here's the plan: throughout the day the hard shells and hoods will be traded in and out, as well as, each set of wheels. Stay tuned and you'll see a couple of tricks that'll make the changes pretty easy... In His Name Wes

Saltster Wires, Steelies & Alloys (Continued...) Let's start with the front steelies: The front rims are from the Monogram '41 Lincoln and the front tires are from the AMT '34 Ford 5ive Window Coupe. Had to narrow the '41 Lincoln rim and add an inner lip: Hosted on FotkiJust happened to have a couple of old and nasty Monogram '34 Mercedes-Benz 500K outer wire rims that seemed to fit the '34 Ford tires. So, I sanded the inside of the '34 M-B rim until the wire basket broke loose, thus creating the inner lip for the narrowed '41 Lincoln rim. Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiNow the '41 Lincoln Steelie inner rim is ready to mount to the R&MCoM Kinmont Brake Assembly. Hosted on FotkiHappy Father's Day, Guys! In His Name Wes

So here's the trick that will aid in the exchange of the rims and tires on the Saltster (& Rev II): Inside the Kinmont Hub Assembly will be a metal slug and a very small and strong little magnet... Hosted on Fotkithe magnet is the single chrome disc above the disc brake & rotor. The slugs are shown below. Hosted on FotkiOn the left are the unassembled parts and on the right magnet and slug in place. The hub with the slug will be permanently attached to the front rim and the king pin; magnet and inner hub will be attached to the axle. So, all three styles of front rims will have the outer Kinmont hubs permanently attached to the rim. Allowing the unit to be separated between the inner and outer hubs and either of the other two styles of rims can be switched in or our, as desired. We'll modify them in an upcoming installment. Again, hope you had a Great Father's Day, In His Name

Now that's a slick little trick, Wes! Wish we'd had that back in the early '70s when I was working at an Amoco service station, putting snow tires on for customers! ;D ;D ;D Keep up the great work and God bless Had a great Father's Day btw, hope you did too
