What treasures did you pick up at the LHS, Swap Meet or off the Internet. Let's see how varied and yet identical our interests truly are.

These were the last kits added to the stash. It wasn't all in one visit, if it were I'd be sleeping in the garage with the kits and spiders. This is the most expensive kit I've every bought, thankfully the LHS does lay-away. The next 2 are kit I have never bought before even as a kid. Both were available before I went in the Air Force but I never even considered them. The imagination of Dave Deal was a little left of center. With his passing last year has made these desirable again. How can you resist a totally outrageous VW van. And last the "Ohio George Montgomery" Multi-Maverick. Nothing better the the last hoorah for a early '70s Gasser. Hosted on Fotki

Neat stuff Dave. I've seen built ups of thefire truck in box stock and way detailed versions and both looked great. It's not my cup of tea, but if I find one at H/L for 40% off I'll probably jump. The "Deals Wheels" van is one of my favorites in the series. I've gathered all the parts to do one, but need to get more of them. I hope Revell will re-do the Beetle and Manx sometime. The Ford Maverick is one of my favorite 1/1 cars . I bought one when they were first out, but it was beyond my skills at the time. Thanks for starting this thread, Dave!

I didn't get these today, but they are a month or so old; Jeep J-10. Ford Courier (WAS sealed since 77). AMT 59 'vette annual (promo type body, molded hood, no engine). Thanks for looking! Don.

I've had this one for a few months now, so I hope you don't mind me showing it here. Aurora Studebaker Avanti. Most, if not all, of Aurora's 1/25 "sports car" kits have been re-popped by them, or later Monogram, except for this one. I am going out on a limb here, but I suspect Studebaker's move to Canada, the dropping of all car lines except for the Lark and AMT's release of their Avanti contributed to this being a one issue only. It's somewhat "clunky" compared to AMT's, but has a myriad of details that today's new tools don't have. Thanks for looking! Don.

Always loved them Avantis Don. They look like a custom already-- in stock form. Love that '59 Vette promo too. Pretty sure I got the promos of the Mustang when it first came out, and then the Maverick also. Just now thinking about it, must've been my Dad got them off'n our neighbor who had a gas station just down the road from our place and he sold Fords there. Always loved the promos-- don't know what it is about 'em-- maybe like the diecasts nowadays. I keep seein' that crazy VW van at my LHS, and keep thinkin' how cool it is-- except for them tires. Guess I'll just have to get it and do something about that ;D Later and God bless

Thanks, John.
I agree with your comments on the Avanti. I even like the later 70's 4 doors.
The vette is actually an annual kit. It's molded in that creamy white brittle plastic that AMT used back then. AMT kits didn't have engines until 60, and then only a few. It will just get new chrome, w/s, wheel, and a color change.
God bless. Don.

Guess I'll just have to get it and do something about that ;D Later and God bless I forgot to add that since the Deals Wheels kits were caricatures, the tires are exaggerated. The wheels and tiresfrom the Jada die-casts and kits look good under them. I'll post some pics later.

I think the thing I like about the Deals Wheels kits is that they allow us to take a break from the normal serious builds we get involved with and build something that is just plain fun.
I mean how can you possibly take that VW van serious, especially once you see the driver figure.

A friend and I split an evil-bay purchase. Initially I wanted the Special wagon, but I told him if he didn't want the gold 'vette I would kick in a few bucks more. This turned out to be both good and bad. The bad (good?) part was the auction picture didn't show: Bad= broken pillar. Good= new project idea for a chopped windshield surf pickup. Bad= see "good", like I need another project! Really good. I figured the 'vette was a re-release 62. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it was an original 62 annual with the opening trunk! Thanks for looking! Don.

I'd be tempted to use some Evergreen to repair the roof of the wagon and look to Modelhaus for the replacement chrome pieces. Great find on the vette, very cool indeed.

Thanks Dave! For some strange reason I've always had a love for 60's and 70's compact cars. Plus my interest in odd-ball body styles led me into this buy. I have two mint un-builts, and this makes my third "builder". One of my builders has a messed up rear pillar so I can combine the two, and not worry about doing a custom out of the remains. I'm not really a Corvette fan , other than the 63-67 Stingray coupes, but this one has me stoked! It's going to need all new chrome, but I can see it in a dark metallic color, white interior, Radirs (out of the Fireball 500), and pinstripe whites.... or do I leave it on the shelf as is.... Thanks for looking....

I'm not sure Don, I'm somewhat torn between redoing it as a Concours Car with great numbers from the Corvette Registry, which would of course entail painting factory colors etc. or building it as a nice street car with just enough attitude that people think twice before revving their engine at a stop light.
Either way It would be a blast to rebuild.

Thanks for looking.... said this one trak but what the heck will do it here too. Do you need a set of orignal amt pinner whites? I have more than one set. They are for some reason alittle harder. Bought them for a set of rims i had but the rims wouldnt get into the cutout in the tire. If you want them let me know. Anyway nice score on the peices. Cant say which one is my favorite. I am leaning torward the vette though Thanks and God Bless Florian
