While surfing Trent Sherrill's photo albums on Facebook the other night I ran across a couple of photos that just screamed "BUILD ME". Charlie Doran's '32 3 Window Coupe was one of the two. The other will get built after this Coupe is completed. Hosted on FotkiSo, I went searching to see if I had a Revell '32 3 Window Coupe that had yet to be chopped. It took searching through a couple a dozen boxes before finding a body that hadn't been chopped. Of course the kit box that had the unchopped body didn't have all the parts and pieces needed for the build. The build will obviously require parts and pieces from the 3 Window Coupe as well as the taillights and cowl lights from the '32 Sedan and hair pins from the '32 5 Window Coupe. A set of tires and wheels from the Revell '29 Rat Rod Pickup and Moon disks from Parts by Parks and we're good to get this build underway. Stay tuned. Peace

Got some work done on the Coupe, it looks pretty much like a straight from the box Revell 3 Window at the moment, the tires and wheels will make a big difference. Went searching for a set of Parts by Parks disks and discovered that I'm out of them. So, I stopped by the LHS and bought a set of them, only to get them home and discover that I'd bought 14" instead of 15", and you guessed it they were out of 15" as well. Time to place and order with PbP. So, here's a look at where things stand this early morning: The one major change in the build so far was to notch the front cross-member to get the front axle to sit down as low as possible. Hosted on FotkiI keep looking at the photo of the 1:1 and the photo of the 3 Window kit body and I can't tell if the 1:1 has a slight chop to it or not. If it is chopped it's only an inch or two, what do you guys think, can you tell if the 1:1 is slightly chopped or not? In Christ

I agree with Tristan........ I believe it's chopped a bit, but also..... I took the liberty of putting both pics thru my photo editing softie, and it looks like there are some other 'slight' differences, that either Charlie did, or perhaps the kit is 'off' just a bit? I 'measured' the ratio of the window opening on both pics. Using the vertical bar (red on Charlie's-- blue on Dave's), I placed that bar horizontal to 'measure' the width of the opening. It does show that Charlie's window opening is just slightly lower/longer than the kit's 'stock' opening. However...... I see 3 other differences. 1)-- Roof top: Charlie's is much flatter
2)-- Rear roof/back of door/moulding edge: significantly 'longer' there than on the kit roof
3)-- Trunk area looks like it's sitting down in the fenders a bit: a very slight channelling?Maybe once you get the right size wheels ;D and get that stance down....... maybe 'flatten' that roof top a bit-- cut out the insert and thin the styrene on top. I wonder at times about the thickness of the styrene contributing to a model not looking like the 1:1 at times. Hope this helps Dave. Later, and God bless

The roof is a lot flatter on the real one. I wonder if thats the reason it looks "chopped". Looking at photos of real cars(unmodified standard cars)the roofs are a little flatter than the kit.

After a bout with the circular saw blade a total of approx .020" was taken out to the height of the roofline. Hosted on FotkiThe top is still no where near as flat as the 1:1, not sure if it's even possible to get it that flat without some major surgery. If I recall correctly the '32 3 Window Coupe that Revell used to take the dimensions for the kit was a glass body replica and not a steel body which may well explain the difference in the roof. The tires and wheels for the mock up are from Modelhaus, they are T110/W110 up front and T180/W140 in the rear. They aren't close enough to get used for final assembly, but they were close by when I decided to see how the chop looked. Blessings

Not that anyone would notice, but the Monogram 3w does have a flatter roof! Thought about taking it and putting it on the Revell body, but that's on my bucket list.
Brother, the subtle difference of the removal of approx .020" is really apparent when you go back and look at the original unchopped body!
Keep us up to date on your progress, Brother!

The body, fenders and all the other parts needing paint are now in primer. Next up is a coat HoK BC25 Black as the color coat, then a generous coat of urethane clear. I went searching this evening to see if I could find another photo of the Coupe, here is what I found, funny how much difference the moon disks make in the look of the car. Hosted on FotkiThe upside of the second photo is it shows the main part of the interior being black and the upper portion being white. It also shows that I need to go back and add the roof insert. Now if I can only find a photo of the Coupe with the engine bay open.

After surfing through 36 pages of 3 Window Coupes on the Traditional Speed & Kustom website I found a couple more photos of Charlie's Coupe, but still none taken with the hood open, but the photos I did find if you enlarge them enough you can tell that there is a SBC under the hood. Hosted on FotkiThe other thing I found is that Charlie's Coupe has had more wheel changes then most Coupes I've seen in a very long time. Time to go find an SBC to add to the build. Stay tuned Blessings

Got the second coat of primer on the Coupe this week, it still needs some finish sanding to smooth out a couple of joint areas, I'm hoping to have it in color by the end of the weekend. Got home from work this evening, the Parts by Parks order I placed with Scale Dreams was waiting in the mailbox. You've got to love doing business with a company where you place and order on Tuesday evening and it's in your mailbox on Friday. Hosted on FotkiThe Salt disks mounted in the wheels and tires from the Revell '29 Rat Rod Pickup. Stay Tuned. Peace
