Well, it would appear I've been inspired by Kit Karson's saltster build-- or maybe more correctly, my trying to get him to put full moon discs on it ;D So, I decided to make my own salt flattie racer I'm starting with this fine build I got in a trade a few years ago. Doing a lot of looking, I liked what I saw with the Studes. At first I considered making this shoebox a "130 Club" racer-- which gotta be street legal. After seeing a Stude like the above (might even be the one) that started out in the "130 Club" (130mph) but they kept doing mods to it, chopping it, setting a Hemi in it, set back under the windshield, etc..... I decided I was gonna do kinda the same, so... ... I figured I'd start with a bare frame. Cut the floor pan off/out and looked thru my stash for a set of wheels 'n tires to fit, and found that I'm gonna have to narrow the rear of the frame to get those slicks inside the shoebox. Then I put the saw to the roof.... ... and that's where it's at so far. Going to widen the roof a bit to get it to mate up to the sides. Maybe put a roof hatch door in. Planning on tricking out the flattie from the '28 Lincoln to put in it, and will be setting it back somewhat, so the roof will be set back as well. Thanks for looking, and may God bless

Brother John, I thought I did some serious chops, but none of mine even hold a candle to how severely chopped this shoe box is. I'm looking forward to seeing this one progress.
Blessings

Thanks fellas Did some work on the frame and running gear... ... cut out the big crossmember at the front of the frame-- to be replaced with one made to hang the front axle from the 37 Ford panel truck. Using the quick change rear end out of the 41 Willy's kit. Had to make the rear frame section a good bit narrower so the slicks would fit between the rails and the fenders Got it cut and 'welded' and set up in this makeshift jig. It's been sitting like that for a couple days now, while I was visiting Mom & Dad-- going to check it soon, and hoping it isn't warped ;D ;D More to come-- thanks for looking, and may God bless

"Easy does it" , eh? ;D ;D Good one Wes, and thank you-- I needed that God really has helped me to "Easy does it" - more and more Still doing a bit of cutting on the 'box.... ... getting those pesky inner fenders out of the way. I'll be fabbing up new ones-- or not. We shall see. While doing a mockup, it looked like the front wheels needed to move inboard a bit, so I opened up the backing plates to get the spindles in the wheel a little deeper. Looks better as well, IMHO. Did a little beefing up of the rear frame section...... ... and fabbed up a new crossmember to hang the front axle. Getting there. Believe I have to go looking for wishbones to put on the front, as that stock truck axle triangle has got to go, make room for the tricked up flattie and it's mounts. Thanks for looking, and may God bless

Still plugging away on this LSR.... 'Boxing' the frame rails, just in case they might be visible. Slowly using up my 'FOR SALE' sign supply of 'styrene'. It works nice for jobs like this A couple gussets for the rear. Push bar/pipe from the Willy's kit is going to welded on here, so it needs beefed up a bit. Worked on fitting the roof a bit. Doesn't need much, but still gotta cut it. Put some tape on each half to hold them in place.... ... like so.... ....so I can measure the gap. Transferred that measurement to some 'ribs' I cut from the roof of Car 54-- what's left of my MPC 49 Merc snap police car body Glued it all together.... ... and it's looking hopeful. Have to fill in the gaps in the body, here at rear window, and up front. That's what sheet metal is for Thanks for following along fellas. Got a question-- I'm trying to keep this in the '60s era, and will be building the trailer from the '53 Ford pu kit for it. I've decided that a Ford dealer will be the owner/sponsor of this 'box, and as such, I should have a fairly current Ford pu to pull/push it. Anyone know of any kits of Ford pickups from 1960-66 or so? Thanks in advance for any help, and may God bless

AMT made annuals of Ford pickups from 60-63. IIRC the 60 was only out once. The 61was updated to the 62 and 63. It was last released in 68 or 69 and hasn't been seen since. They go for $$$$! Modelhaus offers them in resin.
The only other "newer" "old" ones is AMT's 75-79, Revell's and Monogram's 80-86, AMT's 92-96, Revell's 56, AMT's 53, or Revell's 50.

Going to be an interesting model when finished. Certainly a full on chop. Should look good.

Don, your second paragraph of info is about what I was thinking/remembering. Seems kind of odd that there weren't that many Ford pickups from that era. I've been shying away from resin, but looks like I might have to go there....... Oh well Thanks again, and may God bless

Been looking on the 'Bay for those '60s era Ford pickups, and not finding much...... and the few I have seen-- WHOA! BIG BUCKS! and some of the resin ones don't even have glass! Oh well, I'll just keep looking, and possibly 'move' it into another era, but for now, back to the bench.... ....bit of a mockup to see where the big old Y engine from the '28 Lincoln is going to sit- - it's almost as big as the 'Box! A buddy on another forum gifted me with a Revell Parts Pack 283 with Potvin front mounted blower. I'll be mounting the Potvin to the crank of the "Y"-- maybe pushing it even farther back ;D Anyway, lots of bodywork-- I fabbed up a couple 'lips' and mounted them under the cowling, and dutch panel, to lend more glueing surface and support for the 'sheet metal' filler panels. I also removed the front and rear window trim off the roof (as seen here on the right), as I'll be making new window frames that will mount inside the front and rear openings, for plexiglass windows like I've seen on most LSRs. Here those filler panels are glued in and taped-- I'll let them set up for a couple days. Here's where it's at, and this shot giving an idea of window size More to come! Later, and God bless
