Over the years, Memorial Day has become more and more profound for me. Hearing some of the vets I worked with talk a bit about their serving really helps me to be more thankful for all those who serve, served, fallen, laid down their lives, etc.
I worked with a young lady named Donna, who is about 5' tall and weighs about 100 pounds. She went into the Air Force about 30 years ago and became a forklift operator, loading planes, etc. She drove trucks at the steel mill where we worked. She served 3 or 4 tours in Iraq, and the more I heard of what she, herself, was going thru over there, I started telling her that enuff is enuff.
She re-upped in the reserves on Sept 12, 2001. She adopted her crack addicted sister's 2 boys. She out worked many of the 'men' in the steel mill.
I finally got some understanding of why God had her driving truck over there in Iraq. She is a very caring person, one of those who 'light up the room'. She told me that the one day she was driving Iraq civilians around and when they got to where they were going, the one fellow thanked her, telling her "You made my day". I could then see how God was 'using' this wonderful daughter of HIS, and protecting her thruout. She can't stand all the noise of the fireworks on the Fourth of July anymore from all the rocket attacks she endured.
May we all remember, and honor, those who serve, those who served, those who gave their lives. Sad as it is, I believe there will always be war while this earth exists, but apparently there will also be those who are willing to fight for truth and righteousness.
Thank you, and God bless you, each and every one of you.
