Hi Guys, I have a resin model of Dean Jeffries MantaRay and want to paint it Pearl. I have some spray can pearl that works good ,but Nail polish would look better. Does anyone have any experience in using Nail Polish on models. How much to thin using an air brush. Whats the best thinner etc.? Thanks Chip

Chip, I use a fair amount of nail polish on models. I always use a barrier coat (primer) between the models surface and the nail polish. I use standard medium temp lacquer thinner to cut the polish. The ratio I use is some where in the 50/50 range, the best gauge I use is when the polish has about the same viscosity as milk then it's right for spraying. I spray with the air pressure down in the 15-20psi range and open the tip up a bit. That way the polish goes on wet, otherwise it will dry in the air before hitting the models surface.
I have used this same process for the past 20 or so years without any adverse effects on plastic or resin models.

Thanks Fletch, I will post pictures later. I have the car primered but will use lacquer thinner. I thought of nail polish remover or acetone to thin but had a suspicion it would melt the car ... not good. Chip

I've used nail polish for more than two decades also . Don't use acetone or nail polish remover . Too expensive and hot . Use med. dry Lacqure Thinner . Thanx..
