Not too many days ago I got dumped. A year long relationship that grew came to an end. I was pretty devastated-- she dropped me and chose someone else. Spent a couple days deep in hurt and anger until Jesus gave me that peace that surpasses all understanding. After the peace came, then came a sadness.
As I was in prayer the other day talking with God about that, HE impressed upon me that HE knows exactly what that hurt is like when someone you love chooses another. At first it seemed like HE was saying, "Well John, how do you like it?" Like I say, it 'seemed' like HE was saying it that way, but it was really more just HE and I sharing the hurt. As I contemplated that, I couldn't even begin to imagine how God's Heart must hurt when so many people choose something else to be their 'god'.
We always hear the saying, "When one door closes, another one opens". I never expected that kind of 'open door'-- that kind of communion with HIM, but I am so very thankful for it. My intimacy with God has been growing. So nice that we can share all things with HIM, and nice that HE shares with us.
