Granny's parts chasin' T rod

Thanks guys fer the complimentaries ;D Aint it just toooo coool how we get to share the gifts & talents our Father in Heaven has given us?

Back a couple years ago, when HE got me back into building 'models' I got the idea fer a big, fat, low slung early Indy type racer with a straight 8. I fabbed it up outa foamboard with the intention of skinning it like an old wooden ship model. It's about 24" long with 6" dia wheels. Thing that really got me excited about that build---and this here one---is the headers! The original inspiration for both these builds was for a curbside look, without all that detail stuff-- just cool body work with BIG HONKIN' HEADERS hangin' out the hood area somewheres ;D I's trying to answer yer question, Flow, 'bout Granny's engine. Originally, with the original wooden body (if'n ya checks the first pix) was just gonna be a flattie with big headers, maybe zoomies filling up the space where the hood side panels were. With this here T, I'm thinkin kinda the same, but lately I'm considerin a hopped up 4banger with maybe straight pipes out the side and a couple stacks up thru the hood. I'm trying to keep it simple --Please pray for me & Granny!-- just might do a flattie V8, simple like, with zoomies, and triple stacks pokin thru the hood.... we shall see

If your already going with a flatty make it a flathead v 12 ;D I would love to see that with straigh pipes(straight pipes save lives) Man that v12 flatty with 6 carbs or a blower(so much for keeping it simple lol ;D ;D ) would surely light up those huge slicks in the back.


And yes i will pray to HIM to see if you can make this simple but with those ideas from the crazy minds of flow i think HE wont agree with a simple motor anymore ;D ;D

Well, guys, been busy being sick, and being blessed........went fer a walk with me friend Debbie, and God blessed me with a li'l kitty cat companion named 'Walker'. He came running up to me and wouldn't leave me alone. Debbie just happened to have a pouch of cat food she just bought for her own kitties--yeah, right! GOD had it all planned. Anyhows, finally got feeling better & Walker squared aways so he's comfy here in his new home, and got to spend some time at the bench. Worked on Granny's front axle, fabbin' up a connecting link and boltin' it in place.



Went sifting thru me sprue collection fer a piece to start with...


...knocked off them annoying li'l bumps, etc, and cleaned it up in preparation fer me favorite tool---the torch!


Now Granny can keep her T in her own lane while chasin' down them parts


Before we take the front axle off for drilling, figured we might as well fab up her light bar. Just happened to have some of that 'trued' sprue left, so......


Lookin' thru me plastics box, found this here scale 55 gallon drum-- Wow! talk about some headlight 'buckets'! ;D


Ok, back to the axle. So cool, how when we follow GOD's Plan for us things work sooo mucho more easily.......even if'n we don't always understand it at first. I loves scratchin' front ends, and HE has been helpin' me bigtime in buildin' them up mucho better. Using them wee li'l bolts & nuts what HE provided-- and a really cool li'l wrench too!-- 'tweren't no troubles at all to just unbolt the parts so's I could be drillin' some lightening holes in dat big beamy axle. This here be the first drilling.


Here be the second drilling with the bigger bit.......and an audience ;D





Ah, yes! probly add a couple horseypowers to her ride ;D
Finally gettin' some paint on some of Granny's parts. Plannin' on doing all the front end in DupliColor Chrome and want to give it a good base, so did some squirtin' with some filler primer-- me likes!


Not lookin' too bad if'n I says so myownself

Gotta clean up her spindlies fer paint 'n @, so stays tuned

Man john. That is looking really good. Now that HE has also given you a companion cat well maybe you can teach the cat how to brush paint items with the tail ;D probably not happening but you never know what HE has given the cat as talents.

Nice work on grannys t. I think she will have enough light while on the road at night trying to find those part. The work you do is just plain clean. HE has really given you a scratchbuilding talent. NICE WORK

Thanks guys. So nice to be sharing the gifts HE has blessed us with, with each other. Also nice that there are some gifts HE has blessed all of us with, such as the ability to encourage others. I love encouraging others, and know just how much a little encouragement can do. Perhaps that's a bit like when Jesus said "For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in My name.........he shall not lose his reward." (Mark 9:41 KJV)..........so thanks again guys, appreciate it.

Been getting better at spending a little quality time at the bench, ever since GOD blessed me with my little buddy Walker, the cat. I can't be doing the OCD thing at the bench now with the li'l Walker dude stinkin' up the whole house ;D ;D since I gotta be emptying his litter box, as well as washing them dirty dishes ;D. so, once again, praise HIM! coz now my time at the bench is limited and mucho better. Finally getting to the rear end of Granny's frame and gettin' to fab up new parts-- OHBOYOHBOYOHBOY!!! Got me some boxy stock for some trailing arms for to hang her rear end on


Spent a bit of time trying to figure out how to mount 'em up, and above or below the axle, etc


Finally worked up an idea in me head and started transferrin' it to the boxy stock


While at the LHS, saw one of these cool little vises, which I had one of, years ago, but gave it to me son when he got into painting minature D&D figures. Nice to add to my collection of scratchbuildin' tools. Cut out is where the arms are gonna mount on the axle housings


Aahhhh........parts! Sometimes I think of building up a parts store diorama and building parts to stock on the shelves ;D


One arm bolted up. Gonna be 'welding' the open ends shut, and 'welding' plates on where they sit on the axles, with corresponding plates on other side of axle thru which the arm will be bolted, with them little teeny bolts & nuts



This gives you an idea of what size the build is........I dunno, maybe 1/14th scale? ;D ;D


Ol' Granny needs her 'independents' rear suspension. Well, kinda independent. I was thinking coilovers, but GOD told me to do the really coooool thing and put a nice big leafy spring back there, and then add some air shocks! If'n Granny would just get them slow leaks fixed in her slicks, she'd have a much more level ride, but.......it is a parts chaser after all. and she probly likes bein' able to adjust them air shox from in the cab by pushin' a couple buttons ;D ;D


Can't wait to see some engine, driveshaft, floorboards, etc on there. Gettin' so used to them green slicks, it's gonna be hard when they's all black with some real widey whites on 'em .

John, this build just keeps getting better and better. The scale of Granny's Parts chaser may be on the large size for a lot of us but it sure gives us a great set of photos to use as reference for our "Small Scale" builds.

Well, 'WE' spent a wee bit o' time at the bench last couple days, and here's what 'WE' done come up with-- more parts fer Granny's independent rear suspensions


Layed out the rear main leaf


Found some suitable leaf spring stock and........

......cut some 'leafs' out


Used me cool new tool to hold them leafs while de-burring the edges


Formin' up the eyelets on me favorite tool-- the torch!


So far, so good, but need a li'l less arch so's them other leafs will fit.



Brackets for securing the leafs and shocks lower mounting holes


.....and a hanger to keep Granny's spring from springin' outa place.

Also did some lookin' at air shocks, so they're in the works-- OHBOYOHBOYOHBOY!........... ::)Smells like Walker done filled up his litter box again, so I's off!
