This is a build that I was not able to display on the Traditional Rods and Kustoms Forum due to the billet wheels etc.
I think in my collection of unbuilt models the only model year that out numbers the '32 Ford kits is those of the '37 Fords. If Monogram or Revell has produced it I have way to many of them. Until Revell released the '37 5 Window Coupe there were no plastic kits available for this body style. There were a couple of resin bodies but they left a lot to be desired.
This build started in '97, it combines the Sedan and Cabriolet bodies to create a 5 Window Coupe. From the doors forward and the roof line came from the sedan. The section starting behind the doors and the trunk were taken from the Cabriolet. Where the 2 bodies were spliced together is was actually a pretty easy kitbash. That is until it came time to shorten the Sedan roof to the length needed for the Coupe.
This was one of those on again off again projects. Total build time was somewhere in the area of 50-60 hours but it was spread over almost 2 years. It wasn't until Revell announced that they were bringing out a '37 Coupe that I decided to get busy and get it finished. After all who wants to enter a model you spent time kitbashing right after a manufacture releases a kit of it. So the build moved forward in earnest to get it completed prior to Revell's issue date.
The finished build looks like this, the kitbashed body sitting on a "kit stock" chassis using the kit suspension etc. the engine for the project came from a Monogram mid '90s Mustang. It's a 5.0 Litre EFI using the Mustangs headers attached to the '37s exhaust system. Tires and wheels are from the Revell version of the Dodge Copperhead Concept car. The interior is a combination of the sedan and cabriolet pieces with a healthy amount of MCG and Detail Master parts thrown in for good measure.
The finish is Jane fingernail polish called Blood red. It was sanded out using a Detail Master finishing kit. There is no clear on this build it is strictly sanded and rubbed out nail polish.
The build was completed about 5 months prior to Revell releasing their version. Turns out I didn't need to panic after all as I had built a Business Coupe and Revell's version is the Standard Coupe. The major differences comes down to the length of the roof line.

The ol' girl is starting to show some wear after 10 years. Under the right light you can see where the roof pieces come together. All in all it was a learning experience. In the 5 months before Revells issue it took 2 Best Paint and 1st place in Street Rods and a Best of Show. After Revell's '37 coupe hit the market it was all over and done and never placed in an event again.
