Well, I stumbled across this site in the process of looking for other Christ-centered hobby sites. I have been a member of Agapemodels for some time and at first glance I see a couple of guys here from that forum. Ain't it great?
I've been modeling since I was 9 (47 now) and though my primary interest lies with 1/48th scale model aircraft, I also have cars, armor, airliners, and a few large-scale kits in my stash. I also used to be into model rocketry and R/C airplanes are various times in my life.
Geographically, I am located about an hour north of Austin, TX in the Killeen/Temple/Belton area. However, by birth I am a born and bred Cajun from Southeast Louisiana.
Well, I said I was looking for Christian modeling sites. I recently returned from a deployment to Afghanistan (Army contractor). While I had belonged to the local plastic modeling club, I was tired of the politics, bickering and backstabbing. While overseas, I got to talking to another Agape brother about a local ecumenical Christian hobby fellowship ("Kingdom Builders") that he started at his church. He goes to a "bible church" but all denominations are welcome. Anyways, it's a fresh breath of air from the normal model club environment.
Since our correspondence on the subject, I believe that the Holy Spirit is moving me away from the local model club and toward starting a Kingdom Builders fellowship in Central Texas.
In the process, my "old" club has decided that they don't want a web site nor a newsletter (politics - the guy in charge now doesn't like my views so he and his posse have been undoing anything positive I was involved in creating - sound familiar?) SO...
I have begun stripping out the old club stuff from the web site I once maintained for the club and rebuilding a framework for Kingdom Builders. I would like to include a link to this forum if it is okay with ya'll.
That's about it from my end. Oh - the obvious question that will arise is "What's on the bench?" Well - lots and nothing! LOL! Right now I am resolving a problem I have had for pretty much the entire 38 years I have been modeling - not having a climate-controlled space in which to model. So, with the blessings of my wonderful wife, I am carving out a modeling man cave in half of my garage. Once that is done, I will start modeling again...
God Bless your day!
