Out of all the cars I've had I've never owned a set of Cragar S/S's ! The closest I came (1977) was a 73 Cougar XR7 'vert that I put a set of ET aluminum slots on it. All my other rides have had later model, same make, Rally's or the old stand-by, hubacaps and trim rings. I can relate to slaving at the gas pumps. My first two jobs were at Texaco #1 76-77, Texaco #2 77-88. I had to pass on a great deal too; 56 Chevy 150 2dr sedan, set up for later SBC. Good black tuck-n-roll. Needed paint, engine/trans, carpet and headliner. $ 250.00 . I was in high-school so my 66 Comet was all I could afford then. Don.

First car I bought was a '64 Comet off'n ol' Russ Harbison, the local stereotypical flashy dressin' car salesman. He sold a lot of 'flood' cars he got really cheap & brought 'em up to Pa. We were inspecting one of them for him one time and when Fat Albert pushed down on the brake pedal, he popped one of the brake lines! ;D I wasn't making any money at the station, but needed transportation. Got the '64 fer $295 IIRC. The Comet had had power assisted steering at one time-- the kind mounted on the connecting/tie rod arm. Somebody took it off and when they rebuilt it for manually steering, they didn't adjust it right Took me 3 tries to make a lefthand turn, but I could touch the front bumper to the back bumper turning right!!! ;D ;D ;D Didn't have any heat either-- got ice on the INSIDE of the windyshield ;D Shortly after I got my wife (at the time) prego with our son, got a job at the local steel mill (which I was truly blessed with for 33 years). Started making the big bucks and moved on to my first car bought on payments-- a '69 Dodge Dart with 318, automatic shifter on the console, and them great Mopar rear end gearings--always went sideways in the winter!! ;D Later Bro, and God bless

well, time to quit bein' such a fraidy cat and try some paint. aint even close to squirtin' this here '50-- still got bodyworks to do, putty to put on & sand off, but.....ever since I read about Fletch puttin' some fingernail polish on some Ford (do he do anyting else? ;D) I got me the hankerin' to try some nail polish too. Didn't do no serious color shoppin' yet, but got some for to practise with before the '50 is ready fer squirts. Got to thinkin' about what Fletch said about using lacquer thinner to thin the nail polish, and also about using good ol' nail polish removers. Google-gooed "airbrushing with nail polish" and found a 'hotrod customs' site that had an aricle on squirtin' models with nail polish, sayin' that some peeps use the lacquer thinner & some use the nail polish removers. I just grabbed me some colors and some nail polish remover and let me OCD take over Wow! pleasantly suprised am I! or just breathed too much fumos! I weres afraid of pumping this stuff thru my good airbrush, a Badger Anthem 155, so I used the cheaper single action, and was quite suprised with these here results! Don't be knowin' why it comes out lookin' so pink on the camera-- it is not this pink in real life. Tried to get it to look more real in the camera, but it didn't happen. Oh well......... Since I was using the single action pumper, I figured I'd try some of this here flaky stuff. I had already discussed this here airbrushy thing with God, and HE knew I was afeard to begin with-- I's just afeard I'm gonna gum up my airbrush, so I just don't use it. Anyhow, in prayer, HE told me to just start with the cheaper singley action and go from there........ .......so I done did some squirts of the purpley glitteries down the middle of this here '57, and was kinda perplexed as to the flat finish! Hmmm...... no way the '50 gonna get this here kinda paint--I can'ts afford it, but some taildragger maybe? Andyhows, I went searchin' fer some clear, but me cupboard is bare-- of clear glossy, anyhow.........so guess I should go make meself some dinner and eat it. Well, I did get some satisfraction and encouragemints about the airbrushing, so I can now move on to getting the bodywork on the '50 done and headed fer th' booth. Hopefuellie pics o' putty up next. Later and God bless

The assisted p/s that Ford used was a PITA! I still can't believe that it lasted up to 80 on the Granada/Monarchs. They had about 896 points on the linkage that would (and did) wear out! Those Darts and Valiants were cool. One of my other cars was a 63 Dart 270 2dr sedan. 225 slanty 6, pushem' button Torqueflite and factory under-dash a/c. That was a neat little car. You could wind it out in low, then just before the grenade point, punch second and you'd get a mighty squeek out of those massive C-78X13 tires! They should have been named the Dodge Timex instead of Dart. Wish I still had that one! Then there was my 64 Chrysler NewYorker, 413 4bbl... now that was a car.... I know life calls but where are the updates on the Chebby, Granny and Skwirly... oh and the 37 Chebby big wheel. Just funnin' ya. God Bless, and have a great weekend! Don.

OK, Brother Don You had a slanty six, eh? Cool! My coworker with the cherry '57 Chevy-- his cousin had a slanty six, mighta been a 63 also. Didn't talk with him much, kinda nerdy ;D ;D Sounds like the slanty six was an OK engine. Well, even waay back then, when I had the Dart, and was a self proclaimed aethiest, God was watchin' over me & my family. My son was about 4 years old, and short. He sat in the back seat of the Dart while I gearheaded it down the road sideways ;D. One day we were rearended-- kinda cool in a way-- I saw it coming! We were in the left lane, waiting for someone in front of us to turn off and some kid pulled outa the right lane to pass the peeps and there was us in our 68 Dart just sittin' there. Saw him comin' fast, and then BOOM! Demo derby time, with the back of the Dart pushed up almost 2 feet. Jonathan, my son, just got sucked back into the back seat cushion and didn't get hurt at all. Me & the wife got a li'l bit of whiplash. Kept drivin' it thataway until a local cop threatened to write me up if'n he saw me on the road again widdit, so............got the collision money fer it from the insurance peeps, and went & got a 69 Belvedere 4door, like the taxi cabs and police cruisers (they was a few of 'em what used the Belveydears). 318 in it too, but this'n had them good ol' airplane gears. Tooked forever to 'take off', but boy did it cruise! Forget what happened to the Belveydear, but got into a couple AMC Hornets after dat. My boss's Dad, 'JN' at the Amoco had one of them '64 Yorkers-- he was always complainin' about the big fat brake shoes up front wouldn't let ya just slam on the binders coz they would cause the car to spin around. He just liked to complain, tho ;D ;D ;D I's hopin' to spend some time at the ol' bench with the '50, doin some bodywork, so should have some upto dates on it soonly Later and God bless

Brother's X3. I'm glad y'all weren't hurt during the wreck! I had the Belvedere's younger brothers though. 71 Satellite Sebring Plus 383 2bbl ! & 72 Satellite wagon. The wagon was a $25.00 buy. I put a timing chain set in it and drove it for a year. I sold it to a friend of mine for $100.00 when he got side-swiped in his VW. Scott drove the wagon for a year, then the transmission died. He sold it to a junk yard for $75.00. It's a shame new cars don't have that kind of resale value! Never had a Hornet, but I did have the lil' sis Gremlin (73 232, 3sp, a/c). Cool job on the nail polish! I've long wanted to try it because of the myriad of neat colors. To me there are two draw-backs to air brushing; ya got to clean 'em, and ya got to buy one. Duplicolor is a lot easier! God Bless. Don.

, I always wanted a Satellite, Don. Yeah, can't re-sell 'em like that anymores. Nowadays, most of 'em almost seem disposable. Dat li'l-- whatsit called? -- the 'Smart' car? when you's done widdit, just put it in the garbage can!-- it'll fit! ;D Yer right 'bout the airbrush, the drawbacks........but the paintem ups you can get with 'em are worth the 'trouble'. Another 'drawback' usually associated with the 'brush, but applies to any custom paint job is the masking off, but again, worth the 'trouble'-- just like our lives at times, eh? Anything worth having is worth the effort. Couple years ago I did a custom tiger stripey paintem up on a chopper bicycle that we raffled off at the art gallery (some old lady won it and it's hangin' in her basement waitin' fer her grandson to grow into it) anyhow, I spent 3/4ths of the 'paint job' masking and unmasking. The airbrushing goes really fast! Came out pretty cool. Haftsa see if'n I can find any pics--dat was when I first got into this here digital world I get really paranoid when using me airbrush, thinkin' it's gonna dry up and be ruined immediately, so I am constantly running some kinda cleaner/thinner thru it when I do use it. I are a Christian, so I should "be anxious for nothing......", when using me 'brush, but first things first, gotta get to the bench and start sanding & filling dat big ol' Chebby body parts. Mebbe get some primers on it today. Later and God bless

G'day mateys! and g'day at the bench! Did a lot of sanding on the Chebby and finally got some paint on it........ Modified some nail filing emery boards to sand some small areas, like this here fender filler inner part. Tape is on the door to protect it from unwanted sanding there. Good feeling to finally be painting! Putting the 'undercoating' on here. Did the many light coats on the cab. This here etching primer don't like going on heavy....... ....as can be seen here on the bed top rails. Seen it before on my SKWIRLY buildem up. Just can't seem to get away from the fact that it's a truck- Comin' along. Gonna hafta hold pieces in place while the glue sets up. I can't seem to get it to sit just right on the frame with the interior not glued in , etc, but I can hold everything 'in place'-- just hard to do dat and take a picture too! ;D ;D ;D Probably gonna do a little putty up, and get a base coat on it soon. I'm thinkin' a black base coat under the nail polish-- hopin' the black 'shows' thru a bit to darken up the nail polish color. Later and God bless

You know John I've had similar results with the Dupli-color Self-Etching primer when I use it directly on bare plastic. More often then not anymore I use it only for metal or resin. Using the standard Dupli-color sandable primer on plastics and never have that happen.
What do you think of the fingernail polish?

Kinda mixed feelings about the etching primer myself Dave. Guess it helps me to slow down, doing the light coats. It was driving me bonkers on my SKWIRLY build-- seemed to do the crazying on the puttied areas, but I hung in there and got a good coat finally. Love the color of it, and if I ever finish SKWIRLY, that's gonna be the predominate color. Me likes the nail polish fer paint! I think my favorite part is going up to the counter with a handful of differnt colors! ;D ;D ;D Like anything, I just had to act in faith and give 'em a try. Looking forward to doing more with them-- thanks Later and God bless

I am gone what 2-3 days(gasp) and this here happens Darn nice work john. There is a reason HE made the paint wrinkle. Probably to keep you working on it(its squirly number 2 just smaller ahaha) Nice work so far. Cant wait to see it in paint. Say you gonna paint some whitewalls on those tires?

Say WHAT! Why, you old skool punk you! WHITEWALLS with CRAGARS??!! This aint 1951 my friend!! NO no no....... one does NOT put whitewalll tires on CRAGAR SS rims-- not for no amount of money, and not for no reason whatsoever......maybe if'n we knowed a guy had bounced his head off'n the windyshield a couple times, we MIGHT allow him to show up with some redlines on his CRAGARS, but never, EVER-- whitewalls. Man.........I's all done in.......I don't know when I'll recover from this ;D ;D ;D Later and God bless

Just a wee update. Put some putty on, and tried an idea fer putting plug wires in. Seeing those fine prewired distributors that are available, got me thinking I could do somethin' similars, so I drilled out the top of the distributor, put a big drop of gel-ley super duper glue in the hole and stuffed 9 pieces of 22 gauge RadioShak wire in there..... ...then I dipped the whole thing in some orange 'juice' Hope ya knows I was funnin' ya Flow, 'bout them whitewalls, maybe some RWLs on them tires, but definitely no WWs Later and God bless

Well fellers, guess I's gettin' into this here OOBie buildem ups. Paint has always been a scary part of the builds fer me, but I knows I gotta work on gettin' over that there. Actually kinda cool to not try and get everting done in one day-- with the models and everting else Sanded the putties down, & got things all smoothy like..... ....took them body parts outside and shot 'em with some sandy primers--- the quick dryin' lacquer type Looked purty good, 'cept for some of the cat hairs.... .... but waited a bit, touched 'em up a bit with some real fine sandy papyrus and then squirted some of this here Ford color on it fer a base coat for the nail biting final color. There it is, some kinda platinum for one of them big ol' Mercurarys. Always being tempted, eh? Aye, that. Thunked about leaving it this here color, but the fewer peeps what know I done painted Fordy colors on me Chebby the better ;D Gotta mix up some nail polish fer squirts. Got some black and some berry polish the other day and tried a quick li'l shoot with my double action airbrush. Didn't care for the results, thinking maybe I had too much air pressure, and since I got pretty cool results with my simpler airbrush, gonna be usin' it once I get a buncha the 'paint' mixed up. I sure do hope I mixes up enuff! Nice how things are progressin' so fars-- just might try some more of these here OOBies Later and God bless
