Alright so couple weeks ago i posted pics of my current gasser build with a build i finished. My friend and yours demonhunter fan knew about this when i started building(and he decided to build a 51 bel air gasser ;D ).
Well this is the Punk Kid 51 fleetline gasser. Its a amt kit. I took out the ifs set up in front and made a kustom crossmember. To that i mounted a axel and hair pin bars from the amt 55 nomad. The spring came out of a monogram 29 model a(its a rear axel spring). I modified the spring to fit where the amt 55 nomad spring would sit. The motor is the stock six from the kit, hopped up with a kustom build 4 carb intake(carbs and air cleaners from amt 53 ford truck) and a set of kustom made striaght pipes. The rest of the chassie is stock. The interior was stripped of the rear seat and a kustom made roll bar installed. The slicks in the rear are original amt. The color on the rear steelies is testors metal flake red, The front rims are from the amt 55 nomad.
Now the paint. This is where the punk kid actaully showed its punketness(if you want to call it that ;D ). The first paint job was a testors metal flake red. All went well till i sprayed the clear when some dumb fly decided to land in it. If that wasnt enough mom tried to pull it out with a pair of twezzers which lifted the clear and paint. Second paint was a silver base, red metal flake, and testors transperant red over it. Well it went ok till i tried to polish it. I sanded slightly and sanded through the paint Being so fed up with the punk, i grabbed a can of gloss black and sprayed it on. Then well paint started bubbling up Dude was this thing ever going to give me a break Being even madder than before i put the thing in the sun to dry. 30 mins later it was back on the bench. Was i going to repaint it. No. Was i going to try and fix the paint? No. Was i going to do something with it. Yes. Was i going to weather it? Your darn right i was. I grabbed some 800 grit sandpaper and a water squirter and went to work. 10 mins later i hade my finish and i finished the car finaly.
Then it sat complete on my desk for 6 months. Then came the goodguy hot rod show which had a model show. Well decided to put the punk kid to the test. Went to the show both saturday and sunday. Saturday i dropped the punk off. On sunday afternoon i watched the judging and which of the nice models were being chossen. Well to my surpise the punk was put on the awards table I am like huh did i win something. To my surpise next came the award that is put infront of the car. The punk not only beat my butt durring building, but it get me the best junior award I guess He made sure that all my hard work payed off.
Hope ya likes
