I've been working on a '37 Ford pu for a CBP over on Olskoolrodder's forum, "Plasticholics Anonymous" olskoolmodelbuilders.proboards.com/index.cgiTook a little while to figure out which way I was gonna go with it, but I finally decided to do another lo-buck type rod, as if I was doing a 1:1 with my limited resources. Well, then I decided that I'd try a chop-- go in faith and see what happens ;D ;D It turned into a mailbox! Started filling in the gap, using some of what I'd cut out, and.... ..... got this ;D Since the CBP is an 'open' one, I opened up the grille housing and the tailgate...... and inspiration struck! Yep, what better than The Old Rugged Cross for a Christian Cruiser! I'm calling it "Work in Progress" tho, because that's what I am, and that's what it's gonna be-- a rod being built but driven as much as possible. Stay tuned...... and God bless

Brother Jon, that is awesome, I like the chop, the opening of the grille, the mail-slot windows, all around cool.
I have to thank you for the idea of using pieces removed during the chopping process, I have never even considered reusing those pieces. Just goes to show if you keep your eyes open new ideas are out there.
Blessings

Never through the trimmings away! Just pile them up for later use. Old dogs and new tricks... In His Name

"Old dogs and new tricks..." ;D ;D ;D You got that right Brother Wes! ;D ;D I'm feeling it ;D Found that one of what's left of a '49 Merk looked like it had kind of a similar arch to the roof for to make a patch for the 'sunroof' in the '37 Man, them Merks were porkers! ;D Sliced a strip off the '49 and fit it in there. Then worked on the second half of The Inspiration..... .... John 3:16 goin' in that opening in the t-gate. In 1:1, wouldn't be that hard to just cut these precious words outa sheet metal but in 1/25-- whew! Worked it up in PhotoShop to the exact size to fit the opening, printed it (5 times in case of mistakes) on semi-gloss photo paper, prayed and finally had to just start cutting Them's some small letters! How small is them letters? Well........ Took a while to figure out what to use in both 'grilles', but tried some regular old aluminum window screen and I like it. I'll be glad when the gluing is done Just getting all the letters 'n numbers in place for a mock up was pretty nerve wracking Here's the screened in front. Plans are for flat olive drab body color, black grilles, The Cross and John 3:16 in red. So kool that HE has been with me at the bench with this, but the evil one has been pesterin' too at times Later and God bless

Got this Christian Cruiser up on Cragars And that's the stance. Going with Chevy power An earlier mockup-- I thought of using these wheels 'n tires (I gotta use those huge slicks on something someday ) The steelies 'n slicks are gonzo, but I'll be hand painting the "Work in Progress" on the doors Added the bumpers, and shot some paint. This here is 'Italian Olive' over silver which I wire-brushed. Also wire-brushed the shiney off them Goodyears. Hoping to get back to it soon Link to my Fotki album if anyone cares to see more WIP pics: public.fotki.com/V866/37-ford-pu-of-sorts/Later and God bless

Got to say Brother Jon, this build just keeps getting better and better, You are sure showing some techniques that are foreign to me, I've never considered using the roof of another model to fill the gaps following a chop, I've always used styrene to fill the gaps. Keep the great ideas coming, and the build as well.
Blessings

Hopefully soon Brother Wes-- hopefully soon Been having a little trouble finding/making time to get to the bench Later and God bless Now there's a very common problem I didn't think I'd be sharing with others!?. Especially knowing that I'll be turning 63 in about as many days! Bench time seems to be a premium, as of late... I guess busy is better!

63?! You 'sound' much younger Brother Wes! ;D ;D I'll be 59 in about 6 months, and yeah, busy is better-- just have to prioritize and manage our time. I've been reminded of the scripture "... teach me to number my days..."-- something like that. I'm getting better at letting HIM lead me day by day, and some days HE has me r eally busy ;D ;D Getting back into doing some paintings, I was cutting some wood for stretchers to mount canvas on, and took the opportunity to cut some wood for the bed of this '37. Saved some pieces of an old redwood picnic table I was scrapping for just such an occaision Cut a couple thin blanks on the table saw..... .... cut a piece a little longer than the bed, then sliced it into 6 'planks' Still need a little trimming--- next time! Later and God bless

Whew! Finally a bit of relaxing at the bench! Had a very tiring week last week getting ready to run sound for a mens conference we had at our church on Saturday-- which was AWESOME, btw-- HE carried us all up to the mountaintop! More on that in a Praise Report Got some woodworking done for the bed of this pu..... Drilled & countersunk holes in the 'planks' for the straight pin 'bolts'.... ...and they fit Gotta drill holes in the plastic & 'bolt' them in later. Superglued the pins into each 'plank' and set them aside. Finally got around to fitting a parts box driveshaft to it.... ... not too worried about that joint in the shaft, as I'm going to try and make the whole chassis rusty looking, so it'll be covered up. Looking forward to that part. Thanks for looking, and God bless

That is a nice looking custom 37 pickup. What color are you planning on for it? Keep us up to date on its progress.
