tomorrow (Feb 18) at 4:45 marks the 10th anniversary of one of the greatest drivers to ever grace a NASCAR track, and a personal hero of mine. His on-track accomplishments are far too many to mention, and are the stuff of Legend come to life. and his off-track contributions ar all too often overlooked yet are nearly if not more numerous.
To this day I still catch myself checkin the track to see where that iconic black 3 car is, who he's about to knock out of the way and how long it'll be till he's at the front. But alas he's no longer there. He was the Man in Black, so maybe its fitting that that Daytona 500 is remembered as NASCAR's darkest day.
One quote i remember from the days following that tragic last lap was said by broadcaster Mike Joy "It used to be said by drivers that ran against him that 'the worst feeling you can have on the track is lookin in the mirror and seein that big black hood and him behind the wheel just grinnin at you'. Sadly now we realize that the worst feeling is not seeing that black number 3".....
In honor of Dale Earnhardt's life, legend, and legacy, tomorrow at 4:45 I will be turning off all electronics (computer, radio, tv, cell phone .... etc) and observing 3 minutes of silence.
Please join me..... and let any race fans you know of this plan and lets see how many people we can get to join in this tribute to the Intimidator..
