A couple of weeks ago while I was running around trying to find a suitable donor for drop tanks to build the Salt Flat Car I want to build I was at the LHS. On their top shelf they've had larger Trumpeter, Airfix and other mfg 1/32 and 1/24th scale Aircraft. The local IPMS chapter meets at the shop on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. When I walked into the shop all the aircraft were down from the top shelf and sitting on the floor. The wife of the couple that own the shop ask if I ever built aircraft. I told her it had been some years but I had an automotive project that a P-51 Mustang might come in handy for. She said check and see if there is one in the pile and she would give me the same offer the IPMS guys had received the night before. I ask what the deal was and she replied 50% of the lowest marked price. Sure enough there sat an Airfix P-51, marked at $119.95MSRP our price $69.99. A 1/24th Scale P-51 for $35.00 how could I go wrong. If Airfix' drop tanks are correctly scaled I have no idea how they ever used P-51 tanks for Salt Flat Streamliners. So, here I sit with a LARGE P-51. Actually, I'm looking forward to building it for a change of pace. Hosted on FotkiI'll get some photos from inside the box in the next day or so, it may become part of a auto/aircraft diorama.

What a deal Dave!! But yeah I see what you mean about the size of those tanks.... Someone the size of a modern day horse jockey would be the only ones that could fit.
